A Magical Sikh Wedding in Wolverhampton: Harsh & Sharon’s Celebration

It’s hard to remember each and every wedding I have captured unless it’s a special one with unique memories. This Sikh wedding was one of those unique weddings. Every year, many of our past clients recommend our services to their family and friends, and this Sikh wedding was no exception. We already knew the family because we filmed and took photos at Sharon’s sister’s wedding a few years ago.

The pre-wedding festivities were a whirlwind of fun. Harsh’s sisters brought creativity to the Mayian, crafting a Liverpool FC-themed design. The Jago party was a lively affair, filled with lively Punjabi music and dancing at Sitara Hall in Wolverhampton.

Sharon’s Mayian, Choora, and Jago parties were also filled with emotions, colours, and music. It was a chance for the family to meet and greet friends and relatives before the busy wedding day.

The Gurdwara ceremony: A Journey to Bradford

The wedding day itself was a grand affair. We began the day quite early; two teams of photographers and videographers covered both sides. The other team members started with the groom’s preparation, followed by the Barat. The Barrat set off for the Anand Karaj ceremony, which was held at Guru Gobind Sikh Gurdwara Bradford.

This wasn’t my first time documenting a wedding at this gurdwara—it held fond memories from Sharon’s sister’s wedding. Knowing the layout and staff made navigating the day smoother.

The groom’s royal entrance to the Darbar Sahib, followed by his family and friends, was a sight to behold. The groom’s cousins, dressed in coordinated outfits, added a beautiful touch to the wedding. Before Sharon’s arrival, the families performed the Kurmai ceremony. The civil ceremony also took place shortly after the 4 Lavan in the presence of Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji.

Fun Traditions and a Ribbon Cutting Like No Other

Another memorable moment was the tradition of cutting the ribbon at the bride’s house prior to the Doli ceremony. It was an event filled with laughter and playful challenges. The groom was given a series of fun tasks, including a medical procedure and naming body parts in Punjabi. The groom’s friends lifted him up on their shoulders to sing his favourite song as a last task, which they successfully completed.

Sikh Wedding Photography at Wightwick Manor

After the emotional Doli ceremony, we went to Wightwick Manor, Wolverhampton, for the post-wedding photoshoot. The Wightwick Manor is one of the stunning locations that provided the perfect backdrop for the couple’s beautiful Indian attire. It was the last chance to film and photograph the couple in that Punjabi wedding dress.

Every click of the camera captured their love, framed by lush gardens and timeless architecture. The couple was still full of energy despite the long day.

The reception was the next day, which gave us a chance to relax a bit and make necessary preparations. We had already planned to do a photoshoot and video shoot at Birmingham Botanical Gardens. The shoot turned out really well, despite the hot weather that day.

The reception was held at the elegant Rose Garden Banqueting Hall in Wolverhampton. The venue was stunning, with its elegant decor and unique touches.

The energy of Punjabi music filled the hall as guests poured onto the dance floor. The couple’s first dance radiated joy and connection, setting the tone for an afternoon of celebration.

An Impression That Will Last

This Sikh wedding was a true celebration of love, family, and culture. It was a tiring week filled with a lot of shooting and travelling, but it was also filled with love for what we are so fortunate to witness every day. It’s a memory that I’ll cherish for many years. Weddings like Harsh and Sharon’s remind me why I love what I do—preserving moments that will last forever.
