Leamington Sikh Temple is one of the most modern and largest Gurdwaras in the West Midlands area. It opened its doors to the Sangat (congregation) in 2008.

With years of experience, we bring Sikh wedding celebrations to life with our seasoned photography and videography services. We have worked at Gurdwara Leamington on a number of occasions. We hope you find this guide on Gurdwara Sahib Leamington informative and helpful, along with some of our previous Sikh wedding photos and Sikh wedding highlights video from Leamington Gurdwara. We have designed this guide to assist you in choosing the best possible location for your special day. For the reasons listed below, Gurdwara Sahib Leamington is a popular choice among many couples.

Pre-Sikh Wedding Ceremony

If we make our way inside the Gurdwara, we first encounter the open, high-ceiling foyer area. This is the usual place for the Milni ceremony to take place. The foyer’s openness makes it ideal for photography because of the excellent lighting. During the summer, the Gurdwara’s outdoor grounds also offer exquisite cinematic shots.

At Gurdwara Sahib Leamington, guests sit on the floor and watch as the groom walks down the aisle of the Darbar Sahib.

A couple in traditional Punjabi attire sits in front of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji during the Anand Karaj ceremony at the Leamington Spa Gurdwara.

The Darbar Sahib (Prayer Hall) on both floors is very open, with copious space to sit. Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji Maharaj’s Thabia (Throne) is a beautiful contemporary design. The minimal and open look fits in elegantly with the rest of the Darbar Sahib. Leamington Gurdwara caters very well to all-size guest lists. Both Darbar Sahibs offer a capacity of 550 people.

There are a total of three Darbar Sahibs. The main Darbar Sahib is on the first floor, and then two others are on the second floor. The two halls on the second floor can be opened up to create one hall the same size as the hall on the first floor. This flexibility works really well, regardless of whether your guest list is small or large.

Leamington Spa Gurdwara offers an internal team of wedding registrars. Once the Anand Karaj is complete, the Darbar Sahib typically hosts registry weddings.

I have filmed many Sikh weddings throughout the UK and often found couples just following the rituals without understanding them. Gurdwara Sahib Leamington and Warwick made an extra effort to educate the couples about the significance of the Anand Karaj, particularly the Lavan ceremony. The Gurdwara Sahib Leamington’s commette allows interreligious or mixed marriages, even though most Sikh temples only allow Sikh marriages.

Gurdwara Sahib Leamington also offer facilities to host guests after the Anand Karaj. There is a basement area that is gracefully decorated with the latest décor. It offers a sophisticated setting where you can enjoy the company of your guests and host Langar. This area is sectioned off to ensure that the wedding has its own private area and is separate from the day-to-day Sangat. You should always uphold the Sikh Maryada (code of conduct) when on the Gurdwara Sahib premises.

It is becoming increasingly common for couples to opt for a minimalist wedding day. This includes the Sikh ceremony, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony and reception lunch. The financial benefits speak for themselves with this approach. The availability of secondary venues can also be limited on specific dates. For this reason, couples will decide to have a reception dinner within the Gurdwara.

Leamington Gurdwara Location

Logistically, the Gurdwara Sahib is very conveniently located. The M40 is merely a 10-minute drive away. This gives your wedding guests quick access to the most popular second venue of the wedding day. Also nearby are several glorious and picturesque parks. Jephson Gardens is in the town centre, with the River Leam flowing through it. There is plenty of parking in and around the park, which is a 10-minute drive from the Gurdwara Sahib. There are also Victoria Park and Pump Room Gardens nearby. These locations provide incredible nature backgrounds, which allow Sikh wedding photographers to capture timeless shots of the couple.

Throughout 2023, Leamington and Warwick Gurdwara Sahib hosted 93 weddings. Some weddings were exclusively for Milni and Anand Karaj. Some weddings took advantage of the fabulous facilities to have post-Anand Karaj Langar within the Gurdwara. At the time of writing in June 2024, Gurdwara Sahib Leamington had hosted 63 weddings so far. The busiest periods in terms of when weddings take place tend to be from May to September.
